The Century Of Self What follows on this page is the fascinating "The Century of Self" (2002), a four-part video mini-series about the history of "spin," consumerism, mass psychology, and the role of propaganda in politics, social movements, cultural attitudes, and consumption. To many in both politics and business, the triumph of the self is the ultimate expression of democracy, where power has finally moved to the people. Certainly the people may feel they are in charge, but are they really? The Century of the Self tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests? After watching any of these there should be no question as to why Southerners have lost and are losing their identity as a distinct separate people. It will open your eyes to the fact that since the war ended our people have been changed and molded by propaganda to an extent that they no longer recognize their own history, meaning of their symbols, or even their own language.
